FRANGLAIS

In English, Franglais means a combination of English and French, produced either by poor knowledge of one or the other language or for humorous effect. Franglais usually consists of either filling in gaps in one's knowledge of French with English words, using false friends with their incorrect meaning or speaking French in such a manner that (although ostensibly "French") would be incomprehensible to a French-speaker who does not also have a knowledge of English (for example, by using a literal translation of English idiomatic phrases).

Some examples of Franglais are:

  • Longtemps, pas voir. – Long time, no see.

  • Je vais driver downtown. – I'm going to drive downtown. (Je vais aller en voiture au centre-ville)

  • Je suis tired. – I am tired. (Je suis fatigué)

Je ne care pas. – I don't care. (Ça m'est égal OR Je m'en fiche)

    J'agree. – I agree. (D'accord)

M'en va tanker mon char. (Québec) – I'll go fill up my car. (Je vais faire le plein)

    Très joli - treasurely

    Incroyable - unthinkable

"Anyone pour le tennis?"  Je suis seulement here pou le byrrh

    "Cherchant un peu de fun?"

The English nobility and the Royal family have spoken French since the times of William the Conqueror 1066.

See Let´s Parler Franglais, Let´s parler Franglais, again! and Parlez-vous Franglais? by MILES KINGTON

What follows is a good text in French you could easily turn into English!!:

(Traditionally wrongly attributed to Bertold Brecht)

    Albert Einstein

NATURE ITINERARIES

I identify myself with Nature: the symbol of our fate. Our natural landscape is a purifying exercise: it gives free rein to our fears and hopes, the imprints of our ancestors, the echoes of peoples and civilizations long gone.
I hold the romantic view of nature which gives me a sonorous loneliness, where my subjective imagination creates unspeakable, ineffable , unheard-of worlds full of reminiscences of the past.
I´m always overwhelmed by Nature, a passion, an enduring emotion without ideas. The integral way to educate humans is by taking us closer to the natural landscape/ our natural surroundings...as Nature is an open book waiting for both sensitive and sensible people to interpret it rghtly...
